Most of you are aware my sister Selena has been at war with Lupus for the last 15 years. Lupus has ravaged her body, causing chronic pain, hypertension, cirrhosis of the liver, kidney failure, and lymphedema. As a result of the lymphedema, Selena has experienced chronic swelling and a painful rash on both lower extremities. Her right ankle recently became infected. The infection turned into necrotizing fasciitis (the flesh-eating bacteria), which required Selena to receive emergency surgery at Fairview Hospital. In an effort to stop the spread of the infection, the skin from her entire right leg was removed. She experienced two cardiac arrests on the OR table and one the following morning. Selena was placed in a medically induced coma where she remained for nearly a week. Selena awoke from the coma able to speak and with function of most of her limbs, except her right lower leg. She has been transferred to the Akron Burn Unit, and the surgeon there has determined her lower leg needs to be amputated. Selena has handled each battle she has faced with strength and grace. Her resilience is unmatched! Even as she faces losing her leg, her spirits remain high! Selena is currently home from the hospital and awaiting approval and fitting of her prosthesis. Her most immediate need at the time is a motorized wheelchair. The cost of the chair is $2500. Any donation is appreciated and helps us reach this immediate goal. Please share Selena’s story in order to help bring aware to her current situation. Thank you!! God bless!!
