My name is Krista. I’m a single mom of four beautiful kids. My youngest child, Sebastian, is special needs. I’m trying to raise money to get him a cubby sleep safe bed that he desperately needs.
A little about Sebastian: he’s 8 1/2 and is a shaken baby syndrome survivor. Unfortunately, because of the SBS, he is now permanently disabled. Sebastian is legally blind with very, very poor vision. He has hemiplegic cerebral palsy, so he mainly uses a wheelchair or sometimes walks with assistance as he has very low muscle tone and can’t bear weight for long stretches of time. Sebastian is considered “non-verbal” because he doesn’t have direct conversations, even though he can say a lot of words and uses a lot of sounds. He is globally developmentally delayed, meaning he’s around 1 1/2 to 2 years old mentally. He has no sense of safety or danger, he has behavioral problems, and will self-harm or harm others when frustrated (biting, scratching, pinching, hitting). He is completely incontinent, so he is still using diapers/pull-ups. He has a ventricular shunt in his skull to help with fluid build-up caused by the TBI. Just recently, he was diagnosed with epilepsy, which almost took his life in March. He desperately needs a safe enclosed place to sleep as he gets in and out of his toddler bed at night, and it’s becoming a safety concern more and more. He puts EVERYTHING in his mouth like an infant would, and he touches and gets into everything. He climbs onto things, etc. We are both losing sleep due to safety concerns. If anyone is deserving of anything this expensive, it’s my son! He was born perfectly healthy, and because one man couldn’t walk away and take a breather but instead chose to shake him, we now get to go through our day-to-day lives struggling. He can no longer be in school safely, and there is no one in our area equipped to keep him while I work, so I am currently not working. We have tried to get state insurance (Molina) to approve the prescription for this bed for a few years now, but it is a losing battle, so I’m turning to raising funds! Any little bit helps, and if you can’t donate, please just share! Help me get my beautiful boy a safe bed to sleep in!
Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
