Help Restore Fireboat Seawolf to Serve the Delta Again
A retired City of Oakland fireboat has a new mission: protecting lives, property, and the waterways of the Sacramento, San Joaquin, and Mokelumne Rivers.
Azul Marine Group, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has recently acquired the retired City of Oakland fireboat Seawolf. We are now beginning the long and important process of relocating the vessel to J&H Marine in Stockton, California, where restoration work will begin to return Seawolf to operational status.
This is more than a boat restoration project.
This is an investment in maritime emergency response, fire protection, search and rescue, environmental stewardship, marine safety training, and community resilience throughout one of California’s most important waterway systems.
Who We Are
Azul Marine Group brings together a community of marine professionals from multiple disciplines, including:
Search and Rescue, Diving, Salvage, Marine Firefighting, Marine Engineering, Licensed Captains, environmental specialists, and maritime safety professionals.
Our mission is to support local, regional, state, and federal agencies during maritime emergencies while also providing specialized training, vessel support, boating safety education, environmental research, water quality testing, levee integrity inspection support, and marine conservation work.
We exist to help safeguard lives, property, vessels, infrastructure, and the environment.
Why Seawolf Matters
The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and surrounding river systems are working waterways. They are home to marinas, homes, commercial vessels, recreational boaters, critical infrastructure, sensitive ecosystems, and communities that depend on the water every day.
When emergencies happen on or near the water, response can be complex. Fires, vessel accidents, fuel spills, flooding, levee concerns, medical emergencies, and search and rescue incidents often require specialized marine knowledge, equipment, and trained personnel.
Once restored, Seawolf will give Azul Marine Group a powerful platform to assist with:
Marine firefighting support
Fire training and interagency exercises
Search and rescue operations
Emergency response and vessel support
Environmental and ecological research
Water quality testing
Levee and shoreline inspection support
Boating safety and marine education programs
Community preparedness and disaster-response training
Our goal is not to replace public agencies, but to support them when appropriate, collaborate with them, train alongside them, and provide additional marine capability where it can make a difference.
The Challenge
Seawolf has served before. Now she needs help serving again.
Restoring a retired fireboat is a major undertaking. Before the vessel can be placed into reliable operational service, Azul Marine Group must address transportation, shipyard work, inspections, mechanical systems, electrical systems, firefighting systems, safety equipment, communications, navigation, fuel systems, regulatory compliance, and training needs.
The first major step is moving Seawolf to J&H Marine in Stockton and beginning the assessment and restoration process.
That is why we are asking for your help.
How Donations Will Be Used
Funds raised through this campaign will support the restoration and operational preparation of Fireboat Seawolf, including:
Vessel relocation and logistics
Shipyard fees and haul-out expenses
Marine surveys and inspections
Hull, deck, and structural repairs
Engine, propulsion, and mechanical work
Electrical system repairs and upgrades
Fire pump, hose, nozzle, and monitor systems
Navigation, radar, AIS, and communications equipment
Safety gear, life-saving equipment, and medical supplies
Environmental testing and research equipment
Insurance, documentation, and compliance costs
Training, drills, and operational readiness expenses
Every contribution helps move Seawolf closer to returning to service as a nonprofit emergency-response, training, and environmental-support vessel.
Why Your Support Matters Now
The sooner we begin the restoration process, the sooner Seawolf can become a working community asset again.
A restored fireboat can provide capabilities that are difficult to replicate from shore. It can support firefighting from the water, assist during emergencies, serve as a training platform, support rescue operations, and help protect sensitive waterways through research and environmental monitoring.
Your donation helps turn a retired public-safety vessel into a renewed resource for the Delta region.
This is a rare opportunity to preserve a piece of maritime public-safety history while giving it a practical, life-saving, and environmentally meaningful future.
Suggested Donation Levels
$25 helps provide basic restoration supplies and safety equipment.
$50 helps support vessel relocation, fuel, and logistics.
$100 helps fund inspections, tools, and shipyard preparation.
$250 helps support electrical, mechanical, or firefighting-system repairs.
$500 helps fund training, emergency equipment, and operational readiness.
$1,000+ helps move major restoration milestones forward and supports long-term deployment capability.
No donation is too small. Every dollar helps bring Seawolf closer to serving the community again.
