On January 10, Seattle Open Arts Place was broken into by two individuals armed with crowbars. They stole essential equipment and caused thousands of dollars in damage, jeopardizing our tools, the space, and the sense of safety we’ve worked hard to build.
Seattle Open Arts Place isn’t just a venue.
It’s a home for artists, a launchpad for new work, and a vital creative space in the Central District.
And right now, we need our community.
A Sudsy Call to Action
Donate today to help us recover, rebuild, and protect this space.
If you can’t give right now, sharing this campaign is just as powerful.
Here’s what your support will do (immediately):
Your donation helps us:
- Replace stolen equipment (iPads, laptops, DSLR cameras)
- We’re also accepting donations of gently used iPads or laptops—if you have one collecting dust, it could make a real difference to our theater!
- Repair critical infrastructure (ADA ramp damage, door and fridge locks, artist installations)
- Install security cameras to protect our staff, artists, and future audiences
To coordinate an in-kind donation, please email us at [email redacted] or send us a direct message; we’ll follow up with drop-off details and next steps.
Every dollar goes directly toward getting our space and equipment back to what these artist's deserve and rely on.
Why This Matters
When arts spaces are targeted, it’s not just property that’s lost—it’s opportunity, community, and momentum.
Your support tells artists: you belong here, and this space is worth defending.
Thank you for standing with us.
Thank you for protecting art.
Thank you for helping us keep going.
