Sea Otter Savvy's mission is to foster community awareness and involvement to reduce human-caused disturbance to sea otters and promote responsible wildlife viewing. We conduct disturbance research, provide community outreach and education, participate in the annual southern sea otter census, and collaborate on various sea otter conservation programs with partnering agencies and organizations.
This giving season, please consider supporting Sea Otter Savvy. Your donation directly funds the following sea otter programs (and so much more!):
Young people are not only our heirs to the planet and the challenges we leave behind; they are influencers and activists of today. They have the power and the will to make a difference now. Our in-classroom programs and field excursions offer students and youth an opportunity to learn about sea otters, practice essential field biologist skills, and explore their environmental identities. Accessibility is a limiting factor for many students, so we aim to offer our programs and transport free of cost.
To investigate the effect of marine recreation and other human activities on sea otters, Sea Otter Savvy has implemented a research program in collaboration with scientists and students from the Southern Sea Otter Research Alliance. Research requires specific equipment, software, long hours, and appropriate funding for interns. We actively advise and work with interns and students through this process.
The We Were Here sea otter program educates communities and stakeholders who are missing sea otters. The discussion of potential reintroduction to historical habitats, such as Northern California, for southern sea otter population recovery, is a hot topic. Before any reintroduction, extensive outreach and engagement with communities and stakeholders are required. This program offers outreach, education, and a digital survey for active community participation in the reintroduction discussion.
Thank you for your donation! We cannot do all of this without your support. Make sure to follow us on social media @seaottersavvy to stay updated with all of our programs
If you would like to donate on behalf of, or in memory of, a loved one – please direct message us through our website or social media, and we’d be honored to share their story.
