Hi. So.
I feel like I should start off by saying I am not the type of person to ask for help.
It takes a lot for me to even put this out into the world, but I will do it for Scout.
In December, Scout started showing worrying symptoms. He was losing weight, didn’t have an appetite. The vet checked him out and said his prostate was enlarged and sent us home with antibiotics, just in case. He seemed to be doing better, so we thought we were in the clear.
Fast forward a few months, he starts showing symptoms again but worse. Fever. Lethargy. Vomiting. Not wanting to move.
Back to the vet. We ran bloodwork, ultrasound. His bloodwork was off, and bless his vet, they stayed open just for us but urged us to take him to an ER vet.
So I did. They admitted him. They ran all sorts of tests, X-rays, another ultrasound, he got IV antibiotics overnight.
Turns out he had Prostatitis really bad and it caused him to also have Pancreatitis.
After $4000 in vet bills that I am still paying over time (thank the lord for Care Credit), we got him home and better after a month of antibiotics.
Scout is 8 years old. He is a very active dog, border collie/aussie that he is.
He recently jumped up in excitement and landed in a way that caused him to cry out in pain. That was about a week and a half ago. Now he is unable to get up on his own at times and when he moves, he cries/yelps and is just clearly in a lot of pain when he isn’t medicated.
This has happened before but not as bad. He had X-rays done a couple of years ago and they revealed he had a calcified disc in the vertebrae in his neck. I thought rest and some anti-inflammatory meds would most likely clear it up again, but he just isn’t getting better.
So my issue now is taking him back to the vet. I just can’t afford it. It’s really difficult to admit that, but what he will need is going to be expensive and I am already drowning from saving him a few months ago.
Scout is my soul dog. It is breaking me to see him this way. He is such an incredible member of our family and I will do what I must to ensure he is healthy and safe.
If you can help even a little, it will be endlessly appreciated.
I know times are hard for everyone right now, so it’s understandable if you can’t.
Thank you!
