To know Scotty is to love Scotty!
He is the very definition of a true friend to so many, and family to all who are lucky enough to get close to him. If someone needs a helping hand, Scotty is the first person to reach out and offer one. His help comes with a loving heart, a generous spirit, and that unmistakable positivity that only Scotty can bring. Now, our dear friend needs us to reach out our helping hands to him.
In mid-May, Scotty suffered a massive stroke that left him paralyzed on his left side. Since that day, his life has been filled with hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, doctors, therapists, and countless hours of incredibly difficult work as he fights to regain the use of his left leg, foot, arm, and hand. Through all of it, his attitude has been nothing short of remarkable. Pure resilience. Pure determination. Pure Scotty.
After months of hospitalization and intensive rehabilitation, Scotty was finally able to return home in early September. Returning home presented extremely large obstacles with everyday tasks that we all take for granted. Unfortunately, after only about a week at home, he was hospitalized again due to severe gallbladder attacks. He ultimately underwent gallbladder removal as well as hernia surgery, creating another hurdle, and a setback in the intense physical therapy that is so critical to his stroke recovery.
He is now back in acute rehabilitation and preparing to once again put everything he has into the hard work of rebuilding his strength and mobility.
Scotty is also living with diabetes, which can make healing and recovery more complicated and sometimes slower. Yet he continues to face every obstacle with the strength of a warrior. However, even the strongest warriors need an army behind them to defeat what feels like an insurmountable adversary.
The medical expenses from months of hospitalization, rehabilitation, surgeries, and ongoing care are astronomical. His road to recovery does not end when he leaves acute rehab. Continued outpatient physical and occupational therapy will be essential to giving Scotty the best possible chance at recovery, and those costs are significant.
Anyone who knows Scotty knows just how important those hands are. Scotty’s fingers are magical. He brings machinery back to life as a mechanic and breathes life into all of us through the music that he makes. Scotty brings joy to so many of us, creates memories, and plays the tunes that make us smile, dance, sing, and sometimes simply makes our souls feel a little lighter.
Now it’s our turn to help those fingers find their way back to his role as a great mechanic and even more importantly a gifted musician who plays guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and just about every other instrument you put in his hands.
Every donation, no matter the amount, will help Scotty continue the therapy and care he needs to fight for the fullest recovery possible. If you aren’t able to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser. Every share, prayer, encouraging word, and act of support means more than you know.
Scotty has spent a lifetime showing up for the people he loves.
Now it’s our turn to show up for him. On October 24 we will hold a live fundraiser during Flannelfest 3 at Moriches Field Brewing Co. An event that Scotty lends his musical talents to every year. This year will be a little different due to these unforeseen circumstances, but this year is more important than ever because our friend needs our help.
Let’s surround our friend with the same love, generosity, and kindness he has given so freely to all of us, and help him get back to the life, the people, and the music that he loves.
Keep fighting Scotty! Your army is right here beside you.
