Support Scott Siolka’s Recovery After Heart Attack
Donation protected
On Thursday, February 20th, while Scott was at work, he wasn’t feeling himself. He was very hot and was experiencing tightness in his chest.
He told his friend at work (who is an EMT) that something was not right. His coworker immediately called 911.
While on his way to the hospital via ambulance, Scott started experiencing a heart attack (this severe heart attack is also called a “widow maker”). They shocked him and he was stable again. As they pulled up to the hospital, Scott coded and they lost his pulse. The ER staff took over and started CPR. They regained a pulse and were going to get him to the cath lab to clear the blockage causing the attack. They lost his pulse once again, got it back , and he was rushed to surgery to clear the blockage.
When they got in to clear the blockage, they saw that it was 95% blocked (it would have been 100% blocked if the ambulance medics hadn’t administered a clot buster—which likely saved Scott’s life). After they were able to fully clear the clot, they placed a stent in to keep the artery open. Scott was then taken to the ICU and placed on life support to heal his heart and other organs as they were all with very minimal blood supply for 25 minutes while the team worked on him.
As of Saturday afternoon, Scott is receiving dialysis to heal his kidneys that were failing due to the trauma of not having a blood supply while the team worked on regaining a pulse. On Saturday evening at about 5pm, he was extubated and breathing on his own. He is still on support with a device helping pump his heart, as well as numerous medicines and machines to help him heal.
Scott has a long road ahead of him and will likely be hospitalized for the next couple of weeks. Both Justine and Scott will be out of work until Scott heals and rehabs. Please donate if you can to help alleviate some of the financial burden they will encounter while being out of work. Most of all, keep Scott and his family in your prayers!
