Our Story of Miracles
On Tuesday, May 6th, my husband Scott suffered a heart attack while mowing our lawn. He collapsed on the front lawn, unconscious and not breathing. I was home and immediately called 911. The dispatcher guided me through CPR until the EMTs arrived. They worked quickly, using paddles to shock his heart and bring back a pulse. Our kids rushed to the hospital, where Scott was taken to the ICU. He was alive, but the next few days were filled with uncertainty. Scott remained unconscious, intubated, and on controlled hypothermia to protect his brain and heart from further damage. After 48 hours, his body was slowly warmed back to normal, and eventually, he was able to breathe on his own. His awakening was slow, and I worried about the effects of oxygen deprivation. The doctors reassured me that any effort to save him was better than none. By Saturday, Scott began to wake up, though he was confused, which was expected after such a traumatic event. He was moved to the cardiac floor and made gradual progress. Now, Scott is home, but he needs 24/7 care as he recovers. Our primary doctor even called him "Lazarus," referencing the biblical story of coming back from the dead.
This experience has changed our daily lives. Scott is a father of four and a grandfather to seven. I am unable to work while caring for him, and we are facing expenses for therapy, medical aids, and household bills. Many people have asked how they can help. Any support will go directly toward Scott’s recovery and help us manage the financial strain during this difficult time. Thank you to everyone who has reached out and supported us through this ordeal.
