Scott Throop, our executive vice president at CWA Local 3112, is facing a serious health challenge. Scott was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor on his liver and is scheduled for surgery on July 10th in Tampa, Florida. He will need to spend at least two weeks in the hospital for recovery. This has placed a significant strain on Scott and his family, both emotionally and financially.
Scott has been a pillar of our union since joining the board in 2011 and has served as executive vice president since 2022. He has managed the grievance load for our local, supported countless members with issues ranging from benefits to disciplines, and stood on the front lines during the 2024 strike in Delray. Now, as he faces this difficult time, we want to rally around him the way he has always supported us.
Scott is currently receiving only half pay, and the costs of travel to Tampa, medical bills, and lost wages are adding up quickly. His wife, Ronda, will need to take time away from work to care for him, and their twin children, Ally and Andrew, are both in college. Every contribution will help ease the burden on Scott and his family, allowing them to focus on his recovery. Your support means so much to all of us at CWA Local 3112.
