Hello Friends and Family,
I am reaching out to you on behalf of my dear cousin, Scott Stewart. Some of you may already know what he has medically endured since last year, but for those of you who are not aware, please allow me to share.
Scott injured the toes on his left foot the latter part of last year. During his treatment of those toes, the big toe developed a staph infection which caused him to be hospitalized and undergo surgery. Being a diabetic, Scott came very close to losing his toe, but by God’s grace, he did not. Upon being discharged, Scott underwent another surgical procedure to receive a PICC line so that his antibiotics could be administered with ease. He had the PICC line for a little more than a month and was due to get it removed earlier this month on Feb 6th.
On Tuesday, the Feb 4th, the line was giving him some trouble, so he taped it down to his chest for relief. Upon cutting the tape, he accidentally cut the line itself allowing air to get in it. This affected his breathing and eventually cause him to lose oxygen to his brain. This resulted in him suffering two mini strokes. He's expected to make a full recovery; however, as of now, he has very limited mobility. He has been released from the hospital (where he had been since the 4th) and was just admitted to a rehabilitation center a few days ago on the Feb 17th.
Scott has a very tough road ahead as he restores his ability to walk and regain full use of his arm and hands. He is tough and determined to beat this! As a lifelong enthusiast of basketball, both as a player and a coach, he is a natural when it comes to leadership, mentoring, and coaching today’s youth. He is the coach of an AAU -13 & under basketball team, the Maryland Pumas, who he misses dearly and desperately wants to get back to them. Scott’s mantra is “It’s more than basketball!” He instills the importance of building a brotherhood and giving back to the community with his team. Scott plays a tremendous role in the lives and development of these boys, and they love him so much.
We, his family, would like to alleviate some upcoming stressors he will face due to this unforeseen incident. We would like to ask for your assistance to bless him with whatever you can to help with maintaining financial responsibilities and managing foreseeable medical expenses. No amount is too small, and your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.
