Support Scott Lyon with fight against Brain Cancer

Donation protected
On April 23, Scott and Marren heard the news that no one wants to hear - brain cancer. In the weeks leading up to this devastating diagnosis, Scott had been having trouble with his speech, sometimes confusing words or not being able to find the words for what he wanted to say. After being admitted to UNMC, Scott and Marren began to learn about what was going on inside his brain. The left temporal lobe, where the tumor is located, affects speech, communication, and vision. The days following his diagnosis and admission to UNMC have been filled with education, tests, MRIs, and many consults with the surgeon and her team.

Through all of the sudden and shocking life changes, Scott’s priority continues to be his children. Scott and Marren have five boys. Drayke and Dylan are in college at BVU, where they play soccer and football and are active in ROTC. Ashton is finishing his junior year at HCHS, playing soccer and football. Cash (9) and Hayden (6) are busy with soccer, baseball, wrestling, and being little boys. All of the boys love spending time with their dad fishing, going out on the boat, hunting, and tagging along on adventures. This has been an understandably hard time for everyone, but most of all, Scott wants to be sure his family is doing well.

After much conversation with the surgeon and her team, Scott opted for a resection surgery, meaning that the surgeon would remove as much of the mass as possible. We are so thankful for the best surgeon and the most talented neurosurgery team. Scott went in on April 29 for an eight hour surgery. The operation went very well and his surgeon was pleased with the result and with how Scott’s brain tolerated the procedure. Best of all, she was able to remove the majority of the tumor!

He has cleared the first hurdle, but many things remain up in the air. Next steps for treatment include chemo and radiation. In the meantime, we are hoping to alleviate the financial stress on Scott and Marren as they focus on the upcoming fight. The average cost of cancer treatment, even with insurance, is astronomical and the medical bills are just one piece of the financial burden. There are also many out-of-pocket, non-medical expenses such as transportation to and from surgeries and treatments, lodging near treatments, childcare, loss of work hours, and treatments not covered by insurance.

One of the greatest strengths of our community is the enormous amount of love and support that surrounds all of us. We celebrate each other's triumphs, and we support each other during our greatest times of need. The Lyon family is in need of our love, support, and positivity.

Please share this page and consider a donation, if possible. Most of all please keep Scott, Marren, and the boys in your prayers and leave a note here if you’d like to send your encouragement.
