Support Scott Levinson's Journey to Recovery
Donation protected
On Saturday morning, July 27, 2024 we received a call from Tia Levinson saying that Scott, Ashlyn (Scott and Tia's daughter) and her fiancé Nico were in a terrible car accident. Tia told us that Ashlyn has a serious concussion and Scott is unconscious, on a respirator at Reston Hospital Center in Virginia.
More than three weeks later, Scott is still in the ICU, in a minimally conscious state, off the respirator, breathing through a trach tube. His condition is more stable, but there is certain to be a long road ahead to recovery. As bad as this nightmare is, we do not want it to get worse due to lack of resources, we want Scott to have a fair chance for recovery. We know that it will require a lot of care, friends, and resources. We, friends of Scott’s family, want to help during this difficult time and appreciate any contributions you could make. Please feel free to pass this along to anyone who might want to help.
First, let us tell you a little more of what happened. A wedding shower had been planned for Ashlyn and her fiancé for the afternoon of July 27th in Virginia. Most of the Levinson family were already in town for the event or were on their way from New York. Scott, Ashlyn, and Nico headed out early that morning to go indoor rock climbing. At 9:30am while stopped at a red light, they were hit directly from behind by a Ford Explorer going more than 60 mph. The impact propelled Ashlyn’s car to the opposite end of the intersection. Scott, who was sitting in the rear passenger seat, absorbed the brunt of the impact. Both Nico and Ashlyn suffered concussions and were treated at the hospital. However, Scott was barely responsive, was intubated at the scene and transported to Reston Hospital Trauma Center, where he currently remains in the ICU. He suffered traumatic brain injury, a subdural hematoma, seven broken ribs, a cracked sternum, slight fractures of the spine, but luckily no spinal cord involvement. After weeks of floating in and out of a coma, he has begun to slowly wake up and is currently in a state described as minimally conscious.
The doctors are offering Scott a favorable prognosis overall, but he will need extensive rehabilitation including both cognitive and physical therapy. Scott’s recovery is only beginning, and we know it is going to be a long road full of many unexpected setbacks and expenses. Many people have reached out to inquire how they can help. For now, there are some immediate financial needs that need to be met. Scott is going to be transferred to the Coma Recovery Program at Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw, New York, early this week. Neither the cost of the transfer nor the stay in the Coma Center is covered by medical insurance. We are hoping that the auto insurance will cover a portion of this expense, but Scott’s journey will be long and costly.
The entire Levinson family would greatly appreciate a donation to this fundraiser as well as sharing this request to friends and family. They thank you from the bottom of their hearts.
