Hello, my name is Amy Fowler and this story is about my brother-in-law Scott, one of the most wonderful men whose life I've had the privilege to be a part of. He is one of the toughest, hard-working, and most selfless people you could ever meet. His grit and tenacity are among a few of his many incredible strengths, as well as having a huge heart. He and Kari have three children, twins, Faith and Logan, who are seniors in high school, and Grady, who is in eighth grade. He is a very talented builder, a dedicated husband, an amazing dad, and a true friend. His focus has always been family, and he has done whatever it takes to provide an environment for them to thrive and succeed. I am writing this because I want to help Scott continue to provide for his wife and children, which has been his priority.
On the morning of Thanksgiving 2022, while visiting his parents, Scott's life would change forever. Early Thanksgiving morning after preparing for the holiday feast, Scott had what initially appeared to be a stroke. All of a sudden he no longer could speak. The first responders and the El Camino Hospital staff treated him for a stroke until an MRI revealed that he had a 3/4" diameter tumor in the area of his brain which controls speech. After a brief stay at El Camino, he was transferred to Stanford University Hospital, where he immediately underwent surgery to remove the "visible tumor” and it appeared to be a successful procedure. However, the tumor pathology report identified the tumor as a Glioblastoma, a very aggressive cancer. Further molecular results also confirmed that the cancer was already at stage 4. The team of doctors recommended Scott for a trial treatment which he has chosen to do. At this time Scott is not able to drive or work, leaving Kari as the sole family wage earner, Scott’s caregiver, a mother of three kids, the family manager, and all of the responsibilities that go along with these roles. Scott lives 5 hours away from Stanford hospital where his treatment takes place, and there has already been and will continue to be, a lot of driving and travel for Kari and Scott. Since his diagnosis in November, they have incurred huge medical bills, many of which are not covered by insurance. With his ongoing treatment, the bills will be endless. I want the days ahead to be filled with making good memories and focusing on upcoming milestones, like their kids going to college, not how to make ends meet. We all know cancer is not a benevolent disease and has an agenda of its own. I can’t change its course for Scott, and it is likely there is nothing anyone can do to free him from the grip of this horrible cancer. I am starting this Go Fund Me because this is one thing I can do to help. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. All funds raised will go directly to Scott’s medical costs and related travel expenses for Kari, Scott and their kids.
On behalf of Scott and Kari, I appreciate, as I know they do, the outpouring of love, support and prayers you have shown them these past few weeks and undoubtedly, in the months to come.
