On Friday, May 9th, Scott Berry was at home just completing his Roland work week and looking forward to the Spice Runners Lounge Live Stream when he started feeling incredibly ill. His wife Janine called an ambulance, and he was transported to Palomar Medical Center. En route to the hospital, Scott coded in the ambulance. The paramedics performed life-saving measures and were able to bring him back.
While in the hospital, Scott coded again and underwent emergency surgery.
Scott was intubated due to Flash Pulmonary Edema and was in ICU for two days. Later, Scott and Janine would learn that Scott suffered from a Widow Maker heart attack.
The life-saving measures by the amazing staff at Palomar Medical Center and the paramedics are the only reason Scott is still with us. This type of heart attack has a 12% survival rate. We are so beyond grateful that Scott is still with us.
Scott remained in the hospital in the cardiac care unit and was released home after 8 days. His progress has been amazing. However, he has a long road ahead to strengthen his heart. He will have RN/PT/OT visits at home and when he is strong enough, he will start Cardiac Rehabilitation.
Janine has a relatively new job and at the end of the first week, she exhausted her paid time off. It’s uncertain when she will be able to return to work, so this GoFundMe has been established so that she can continue Scott’s care for as long as it is needed.
In addition, Scott’s sick time and vacation time will run out during the first week of July.
We are increasing our goal to cover the costs of the necessary items that Scott will need at home such as a shower chair, a walker, an Cain, blood pressure cuff, SPO2 machine, compression boots, grab bars, oxygen delivery, home visits and the associated copays. He will also have the high deductible for insurance and copays for medications which run about $377/month and many, many office visits. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
