Dear Friends, Family and supporters of Feed the Ravens,

Scot has been diagnosed with head and neck (throat specifically) squamous cell carcinoma.

Many of you know Scot from Feed the Ravens and his epic story telling while tending shop at medieval events all over the world. He readily shares his knowledge and always takes the time to find common ground with everyone, often while sharing tidbits of his and Maggie’s adventures.

He is the type of person who shows up without hesitation, whether it is in the middle of a torrential rainstorm to help save your belongings from a flood or to handcraft a one-of-a-kind belt or pouch that will stand out. Most importantly though, Scot has a remarkable gift for making everyone around him feel important, appreciated and truly valued every time they spend time with him. He is funny, and an amazing human being who brings out the best in others.

In the time I have known Scot, he has suffered a devastating copperhead bite, battled multiple floods in the studio, moved from NC to ME, lived with severe chronic pain, had both knees replaced in 2025, and now has a cancer diagnosis.

Scot will have to have neck surgery, (hopefully sometime in the next 3 weeks), to remove the tumor and nearby affected lymph nodes. The 5 year survival rate for this type of cancer is 95% which is the one recent blessing in all of this, knowing that he can win this fight.

He has a care team in place and is ready to fight!

Scot has had weeks of last minute appointments since April 2026, and because Maine is rural, has also had to travel long distances to get the care and diagnosis as well as hammer out a post surgical plan with oncology and radiology. The time and travel for his treatment has already had a devastating impact on their business.

All of this has meant that the local markets Maggie and Scot would normally sell at as well as all of the events they would normally attend as Feed the Ravens have been missed. Missing markets and events means no income at a critical time.

As hardworking artists, just taking care of the emergent and necessary needs for Scot has been devastating to their bottom line. Scot and Maggie are multi-skilled master artisans - he works in leather, wood and makes epic pottery decoration while she recreates pottery shapes from the past and uses ancient aesthetics that merge seamlessly with modern design, (work that is consistently sold out), as well as creating one of a kind jewelry.

Insurance covers less and less for medical needs - as it is for many Americans, none of it is enough.

Scot and Maggie are at the beginning of this journey and this fund will soften the blow of ongoing medical costs and living expenses while Scot recovers.
