My friend, let's call her Scarlett, is a wife, mother and hardworking housekeeper. Since applying for asylum for herself and her young child, she has done everything that was required of her to legalize her status. Yet three weeks ago, while leaving her home for work, Scarlett was detained by ICE, sent to Vermont, and then transferred to a detention center in Texas.

Today we learned that Scarlett's lawyer was able to stop her deportation with a Stay of Removal. We are so relieved! However, the work is just beginning.
