As many of you know, SBUSD board voted last week to mandate the Covid-19 vaccine for all staff and teachers, as well as ban parents who haven't received it from going inside their children's schools. In addition to this, any teacher who has a grave concern about the shot and will not get it will be put on administrative leave without pay so that they cannot even get unemployment and the district can't be held liable for firing them. All of this in the middle of the school year when other jobs are hard to find, on top of having to uproot their families for wherever the work is available!
Medical exemptions are impossible to get because any doctor who gives one is put on the government's "list" and will lose their jobs. Religious exemptions will be "considered"--but many have been denied. Most of these families have kids of their own to feed and need our support as a community now more than ever. Teachers don't make enough to have much extra set aside, at least in Santa Barbara.
Let’s raise enough to fill in the gap for each of the local teachers and staff who are brave enough to lose their jobs rather than go against their beliefs about the seriousness of this vaccine so they can make it to the end of this school year without becoming homeless. They will need this as legal proceedings happen and they find out if they need to move to another area to teach next Fall.
All funds raised will go to affected parties, minus the 2.9% administrative fee taken by GoFundMe. If any money is raised beyond repaying every one their missed salary this year at their current rates, I will give it towards their legal proceedings or other families who have lost their jobs because of a Covid-19 vax mandate. I'll reassess the goal amount if more is needed to help them all get through this year.
