Susan Slade needs cataract surgery on both eyes as well as a procedure to be done at the same time to relieve pressure (glaucoma). There is an instrument that may be needed to get accurate measurements for the new lenses which costs $500 per eye. Our best estimate of the total cost for ophthalmologist who does the surgery (not laser), surgery center, anesthesiologist, prescriptions, and anything else we haven't thought of is $3000 total. Even if you can't help financially, we would appreciate your prayers. We have to travel to Dallas (North Central Expressway) for the surgery and the follow up appointments which is hard on Susan; but Dr. Kirby was the only ophthalmologist who could handle someone with Susan's particular set of complexities (not being able to lean into testing equipment and needing to be under anesthesia for the procedures due to unpredictable spasms and extreme startle reflex due to cerebral palsy). Dr. Kirby is going to talk to the surgery center about possibly taking care of both eyes on the same day which would be much easier on Susan. Thank you in advance for your prayers!
Update: Surgery is scheduled for October 7th. We do not know what time yet or whether she will be able to do both eyes. We will know more one week before 10/7. Also, I (Susie Hale) need to schedule an outpatient surgery to have a ganglion cyst removed from my left foot. If we raise more than what is necessary for Susan's eyes, it will be applied to the cost of my procedure.
