Support Savannah Karm's Fight Against Brain Cancer

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Norma Karm and I am Savannah Karm's "Grammy!"
I have created this Go Fund Me in support of my Granddaughter and her parents, Ashley and John.

Please consider supporting them as they get through these challenging times since Savannah was diagnosed with Brain Cancer.

"Savannahs Story"
This past Summer, Savannah started having headaches and nausea, sometimes accompanied by gagging and/or throwing up. Savannah's mom took her in to her doctor for a diagnosis after this had been going on longer than expected for a typical illness. She was told that the symptoms were likely due to her enlarged tonsils. The ENT appointment was not available until December 26th. Meanwhile, Savannah's symptoms continued to worsen. Her mom found a different ENT who was able to get her in sooner, in September. She also set up an appointment for a pediatric ophthalmologist to check out a spot on her eye which she was born with. At her kindergarten eye exam the year prior, the eye doctor said they might want to have a pediatric eye specialist eventually check out the missing color on the bottom of her iris, because sometimes eye abnormalities can correlate to early onset arthritis. The eye specialist was able to see Savannah within a couple of weeks. They were told that the missing color on the iris was of no concern. However, upon checking the pressure of Savannah's eyes - the pediatric ophthalmologist was immediately concerned and began asking Savannah's mom if she had been having headaches. She told him yes, but that they were told by her doctor that the headaches and nausea were due to the enlarged tonsils. The ophthalmologist then told her this was not the case - that there was a lot of pressure behind Savannah's eyes and that she needed to be seen at the pediatric ER that evening for an emergency MRI.

The eye appointment was on August 28th, and Savannah and her family have been away from home for her treatments ever since! The MRI showed that Savannah had a large mass on the back of her brain. The next day, my son and daughter-in-law got some of the worst news a parent can ever hear - their 6 year old daughter had a tumor on her brain which was blocking the normal drainage of her spinal fluid - and she needed surgery to have the excess fluid on her brain removed right away. She also needed another surgery to have the tumor removed.

Savannah was hooked up to a drainage hose in the front of her skull for 9 days. On August 30th, she had a brain surgery in which the surgeon was fortunately able to remove 99% of her tumor. Unfortunately, it was determined that the tumor is an aggressive form of cancerous tumor called a medulloblastoma. Upon removal of the tumor, due to where it was located, Savannah developed "Posterior Fossa Syndrome" and had to go to a medical rehabilitation center for nearly a month to relearn how to do everyday things such as walking, talking, writing, coloring, using the bathroom, etc.

Despite all that Savannah has had to go through in the last couple of months, she quickly bounced back while at the rehabilitation center and was able to relearn everything. Her bubbly, outgoing and funny personality came back, and she makes friends wherever she goes!

Savannah is undergoing radiation and chemo treatments. She is a little over halfway through her 30 radiation treatments. She has a long road of hospital visits ahead as she goes on to maintenance chemo treatments starting in December and lasting nearly a year from then. She has only been able to attend 8 days of First Grade so far before all of this happened. She misses her home, friends, school, teachers and staff from her school - and her church and church family.

Her dad has been taking some time off work to be with Savannah and her mom at appointments, and for when she is not feeling well due to the treatments. The medical bills continue to come in each day so I am reaching out to ask for help from others in getting Savannah and her family through all of this financially. Thank you for your consideration!
