No family should be pushed into crisis because a father was taken away.
Our community is coming together to support the family of Saul Abraham Almendarez Zepeda, a father currently being held at Delaney Hall detention center in New Jersey.
Saul has been living in the United States since 2021, seeking asylum and safety for his family. Like many asylum seekers, he has been navigating the legal process while working and supporting his loved ones.
At around 7:00 a.m. on March 6th, during what we believe was a targeted immigration enforcement operation in our community, Saul became a collateral arrest in Atlantic City. Saul has no criminal charges and is currently being held in immigration detention while seeking asylum.
Saul is a father, a working man, and an immigrant searching for safety and a better life for his family. When immigration agents appeared, Saul ran out of fear, a reaction many immigrants experience when confronted with enforcement, and he was detained.
That moment separated him from his family.
As soon as our community learned about Saul’s detention, El Pueblo Unido activated our Rapid Response network, a volunteer team trained to observe, document, and respond when immigration enforcement impacts our community.
Volunteers immediately began working to locate Saul within the detention system, checking the ICE detainee locator repeatedly until we were able to confirm where he was being held. Our team then began coordinating support to help the family navigate the difficult first steps of this process.
On Sunday, March 8th, Saul’s two young children, an 8-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl, visited their father at Delaney Hall. They are children navigating a system that has broken their family and struggling to understand why their dad cannot come home.
Like many working parents in our community, Saul worked hard to provide stability for his family. His detention has created immediate hardship for those who depend on him most.
El Pueblo Unido is organizing this fundraiser with the family to help them remain stable while they fight for Saul’s freedom and navigate the legal process ahead.
Our Goal: $5,000
Funds will go directly toward supporting the family with urgent needs, including:
• Diapers and essential supplies for the children
• Rent and basic household expenses
• Attorney fees and legal support for Saul’s case
Detention cases are long, stressful, and expensive. Without community support, families are often left to navigate these challenges alone.
At El Pueblo Unido, we believe our community must show up so that families are not left to carry this moment by themselves.
Now we are asking our broader community to help carry this family through this difficult moment.
If you are able, please donate and share this campaign. Every contribution helps ensure that Saul’s children and family have the stability they need while they fight to bring him home.
Solo el Pueblo Salva al Pueblo.
