UPDATE FROM MOM 4/29 My little Sassy is home, but she's still fighting hard for her life. She's making progress, but the road ahead is long and tough. After enduring so much pain, all she knows now is love and comfort, and we want to keep it that way. We're reaching out for help—every bit counts towards her treatment and recovery. Please like, comment, and share this post
4/29 UPDATE We got her blood test results this am. The Babesia is still present after 7 weeks of intense treatment. We are disappointed to say the least. Sassy is blissfully unaware of how sick she is... she is playing, cuddling, basking in the sun and eating well. She is playing with her favorite wishbones, taking short walks, napping and loving her people. At this point we can stay with this treatment in hopes of continuing this left of quality of life for as long as possible. If it becomes too toxic or the parasite becomes resistant, we will need to then need to prepare to let this beautiful soul cross over the rainbow bridge. She has endured so much in her short life. It's completely unfair. I wish I could keep her alive forever. I wish she were going to grow old with us. A terrible owner, a person that used her as bait to get male dogs ready for fighting has robbed her of that. We will continue her treatment and biweekly testing of her blood. She loves going to the doctor's office. She shows off her outfits from Pittie Clothing Company. We have to enjoy each day to it's fullest like she does. She doesn't worry about stuff she can't control, she just lives in the now. I can learn a lot from her. She is truly a gift to my soul and I can't even allow myself to imagine life without her, but it's not about me. It's about giving her the best live we can in the time we are given. I deeply appreciate continued prayers for her.
3/24UPDATE My little girl is fighting for he
r life. She is trying so hard to stay with us. She is making slow but steady progress. We will know more tomorrow after her blood tests. A heartfelt thank you to everyone praying for her, everyone praying for us and of course everyone who has donated. We deeply value every minute we have with her thanks to you. .
UPDATEGood Morning!!!! Our Sassy is home. She is very weak and tired. These meds are very strong. We need to give her appetite stimulants and anti nausea meds to keep them down. She is sleeping a lot which is great for her healing. She is trying so hard to get back to herself. This sweet soul was used in dog fights for most of her young life. When she got pregnant she was discarded to fend for herself. She was picked up as a stray and because of Penny Ross she was brought to NY where My husband, Nick Casey and I fell head over heels for her. Until Penny she didn't know the comforts of being inside, being loved, having a full food dish, clean water... It's incredible how quickly she has taken to being a pampered pooch. She has her own bed, a toy box full off bones and squeakies, she has a wardrobe ( yes, because it's adorable, but also because it makes her feel secure) She loves a routine ( she can tell time, I just know it. If I am not filling her food dish at 5pm sharp, she lets me know) She is loved and adored as all dogs should be. I just hate that she is still battling for this life because of the horrible people and what they did to her. Babesia Gibsoni is a parasite transmitted from dog bites. You can see all over her body all the places this infection could have started. She's be bitten, broken, kicked... My goal is to help her forget all those years and just know this peace, this abundance and this life we have made for her for as long as possible. She isn't " just a dog" she is the hope that no matter what life hands you, there is always better, she is proof that love conquers all, she is pure joy and unconditional adoration and appreciation. She is everything good. She inspires me to keep going even when it's tough. I need help to keep her alive and get her well. It's incredibly expensive to treat this illness. Blood Transfusions, medicines, blood testing, hospital stays... She has a long road ahead of her. This treatment is intense. She has parasite her in blood that consume her red blood cells. She has overcome abuse, abandonment, starvation, cruelty, and who knows what else to get here. Please help us get here well enough to enjoy life. Help Sassy Fight for Her Life
Sassy has already overcome so much. Once a bait dog in a cruel and heartbreaking world, she was given a second chance at life when she was rescued by Dally’s Hope for Paws in 2023. This incredible rescue works tirelessly to save dogs from kill shelters in the South, finding them loving homes where they can finally experience the kindness they deserve. Sassy’s journey led her to Santa Nick C. and his wife, Erica Casey, who opened their hearts and home to give her the love and safety she had never known.
Going through a mastectomy for Breast cancer and splenectomy because of her having a hematoma from what they assume is from being kicked now ,Sassy is facing another battle—one that she can’t fight alone. She has been diagnosed with Babesia gibsoni, a dangerous blood parasite commonly found in dogs who have suffered in fighting rings. This disease attacks her red blood cells, causing severe anemia, fatigue, and other life-threatening complications. Despite their unwavering dedication, Nick and Erica have already spent thousands of dollars on treatments, tests, and specialist care to help Sassy, but she still needs more medical support to survive.
Now, they need our help. Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward Sassy’s ongoing treatment, ensuring she has the best chance at a long, happy life. Sassy has endured so much pain in her past, but together, we can show her that love and compassion will always win. Please consider donating and sharing her story—because every dog deserves a fighting chance.
