Hello everyone!
My name is Saskia Curry. I’m a senior film student at Wesleyan University looking to fund my capstone film.
What’s Leftover is a 10-12 minute coming-of-age short about friendship as it ebbs and flows through time. The story tells itself through a handful of glimpses into one night: a dinner reunion a few years after graduating college. Jo and her long-term boyfriend host Ava and her new boyfriend for dinner at their place upstate. What begins as an awkward double date soon becomes a quiet reckoning with the shifting nature of their friendship. The film is neither one of love nor loss but explores how our best relationships constantly straddle both.
Our crew is primarily comprised of women, who are often underrepresented and overlooked in the film industry. We strove to create a professional and supportive set, and funding is crucial for allowing us to realize this vision.
Through months of dedicated preparation, our team of three set designers completely transformed the Crawford House, an uninhabited Wesleyan-owned property donated to the university so students could practice filmmaking. We’re incredibly grateful for this monumental resource, but the reality is that the house has been used for hundreds of student projects over the years. We walked into a space worn thin– peeling paint, splattered floors, and none of the basics needed to create a believable world: no chairs, curtains, cups, plates, nor bowls, and, crucially, the food. Despite all this, we renovated the rooms we shot from top to bottom to build the world of our characters and make our vision come to life.
Additionally, creating a professional, supportive environment meant feeding our cast and crew, renting lenses, purchasing hard drives and insurance, and the small tools needed to keep us moving. We are a little film with many people who put in significant time and work, and this funding is a crucial piece to supporting all of that.
Funding will go toward set dressing, supplemental equipment, and supporting our cast & crew. All donations are greatly appreciated!
Donations of $50+ will receive thank you in the credits.
Donations of $300+ will receive an associate producer credit.
Thank you for helping us bring "What’s Leftover" to life!
