I am thankful to be alive & that the car hit me first because if it would have hit my dog, Mobius, full force he would be gone…

My sister Sloane, myself & Mobius were walking up Laguna Avenue, crossing Alida Street just before 6:00 pm on Sunday, June 30th, 2024. On a neighborhood street. There was no traffic light nor a marked crosswalk. No cars were coming when we began crossing the street. When I was almost to the other side of the street with my dog Mobius (my sister close behind me), without warning I was hit by a vehicle that was coming down the hill on Laguna Avenue, making a swooping right turn onto Alida Street. The man driving the vehicle did not stop or slow down while making the swooping turn onto Alida Street impact on the right side of my body hitting my dog as well. My sister witnessed this happening.

Sloane retrieved his information in a panic. Luckily he cooperated & is insured through Geico.

The impact spun me around before I was forced to the ground. I was still holding onto my dog’s leash with my right arm. When the vehicle hit, both my dog and I were dragged about 10-15 feet by the vehicle, my right arm extended & pulled until forced to be ripped from my dogs leash as we were dragged. My right arm & shoulder are badly damaged & strained. I cannot rotate my arm at all or lift anything heavy.

Affecting my ability to work as an artist/ painter/landscaper. Using crutches for my hip is very painful for my shoulder injury. I also have a preexisting injury. On November 9, 2022, my right knee was broken. Which I was already scheduled a referral from my Dr. this June 17th, 2024 for a return to Physical Therapy for my right knee. Which now I am going to be referred for a lot more. The impact of being hit by the vehicle damaged my right hip, right leg, right knee, neck, right arm (shoulder/elbow/wrist) exacerbating the pain of my already injured knee. Directly following the incident, I was too traumatized to go to the hospital and sit in a waiting room with excruciating hip pain and a large open wound. I also had to get my dog back home, which my sister assisted by tying Mobius to a tree for us to safely wait for her getting her car & coming back to get us.

I went to the hospital the following morning, Monday, July 1st for a full examination. Thankfully there were no fractures! With full body internal bruising & strain, I am still in extreme pain and have scheduled doctor appointments as well as ongoing Physical Therapy. How long this will all take before able to work as an artist/labor worker when I cannot rotate working arm, lift up & down without pain or lift weight using my dominant arm. I cannot lift my right leg due to hip injury & timing with compensation for inability to work after incident through insurance is going to be a long process… I cannot receive disability because I don’t make enough in a year to pay taxes as a low income artist.

I have chosen a lawyer without interest rates on the process from a third party. However the case will take time & I don’t know when I will be able to go back to work again.
