Sasha is my beloved 8-year-old Siamese/Scottish Fold mix cat, and she has been my constant companion since she was a kitten. Throughout the years, Sasha has provided me with unwavering support, accompanying me through high school, my bachelor degree, and now my DVM degree as a veterinary student at UC Davis. Her presence has been a constant source of comfort and inspiration, and I truly believe that without her, I would not have realized my dream of becoming a veterinarian.

Unfortunately, Sasha was born with a genetic condition known as Scottish Fold Osteochondrodysplasia, or Scottish Fold disease. While this mutation gives Scottish Folds their distinctive and adorable folded ears, it also leads to painful and debilitating bone disease. Over time, Sasha has developed significant bone growth around the joints in her hind legs, including her ankles and toes. This has caused her considerable discomfort and has now progressed to the point where one of her toes is so swollen with bone that she can no longer walk on it. Although this condition cannot be cured, surgery could greatly improve her quality of life: Sasha now requires a single digit amputation to relieve her pain and help her regain mobility. Due to her rare and complicated condition, this surgery requires specialist care and is incredibly costly. The estimate for this procedure and post-operative care lies between $5,000 to $6,000.

As a full-time student with limited income and savings, I am unable to cover the entire cost of this essential surgery on my own. I am reaching out to the anyone who is willing to donate to give Sasha a more comfortable and active life. Any donation, regardless of size, would be deeply appreciated. All funds raised will go directly toward Sasha’s surgery, and any additional contributions will be set aside for her ongoing medical care, including long-term pain management. Please do not feel pressured to donate if you are unable to! Sharing Sasha’s story and spreading the word would be just as helpful. I appreciate you taking the time to read about Sasha, and I hope you consider supporting her journey to recovery.
