This past weekend first responders were called to the residence of Sarina Briski when her kitchen caught fire unexpectedly. Everyone who was in the house made it out to safety, and all the animals that were inside were rescued by the fire department. The house itself is structurally sound, but the interior faced extensive damage. The front foyer and the second story are covered in smoke damage making the house uninhabitable. The kitchen experienced the most damage, with the floors, walls, and kitchen appliances being destroyed in the fire. Damage also extended to parts of the downstairs and the exterior of the house as well.

To many members of the community, the house is a landmark as it resides in the heart of the Nathan Strong Park Historic District and is intertwined with Berlin’s history. But it was also home for Sarina and her children, and they made it feel like home to anyone who came by to visit. They made their home somewhere family and friends could gather to have a good time.

For those who don’t know the family, Sarina is a hard working mom of four children. She provides for her family day in and day out, and she does so with a smile on her face even when times are hard. Her oldest daughter, Destiny, is a pillar in community member’s morning routine, making people their cup of coffee before they make the morning commute. But Destiny is more than just a barista to many people who see her at the coffee shop. She is someone in this community that genuinely cares about the well being of others.
