In mid-November 2025, we received the most heartbreaking news - our 41-year-old sister Sara Rai was diagnosed with an extremely severe form of liver cancer, advanced Hepato Cellular Carcinoma (HCC). She also has decompensated cirrhosis (Child-Pugh Class C) and a solitary liver lesion consistent with HCC. On top of that, she has been living with chronic post-tubercular osteomyelitis in her left hip - a persistent bone infection caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis that has left her unable to walk. Because of these conditions, her liver function is severely compromised, and a liver transplant is considered the best and only viable treatment for both her cirrhosis and HCC.
This is not something that came out of nowhere, she has been sick for over 16 years with recurring illness. It started with jaundice and liver infection when she was 25 years old, and since then she has endured repeated hospital stays, tuberculosis, weakness, swelling, breathing problems, and countless setbacks. She has spent so much of her life fighting just to stay stable.
After consulting with her Hepatologist and the liver transplant team, she has been advised to undergo a liver transplant within the next two months due to the advanced stage of her cancer. She is currently hospitalized, undergoing pre-operative evaluations for both the recipient and the potential donor. Once she recovers successfully from the liver transplant, she will also require orthopedic surgery - a hip reconstruction or replacement - to address the severe joint damage caused by long-standing post-tubercular osteomyelitis.
Even after all these years, she has shown remarkable strength. She remains positive, hopeful, and determined with unwavering willpower to overcome this battle against cancer.
In these incredibly difficult times, we are creating this GoFundMe fundraiser to help Sara focus on what matters most - her healing, her strength, and her chance at a renewed life. Watching someone you love fight a battle this overwhelming is heartbreaking, and no family should have to face it alone.
Your support means more than words can express. Every contribution, big or small, will go directly toward her transplant medical expenses, treatment procedures, transportation, and the essential care she needs throughout this challenging journey. By helping lift this financial burden, you are giving Sara the space to breathe, to hope, and to fight her way back to health. If you are wondering how you can help Sara, please consider contributing to this cause.
Thank you for supporting our dear Sara during this incredibly challenging and life-changing time.
