Help Sarah's Specialty Cakes Fight Anti-2SLGBTQIA+ Bigotry and Discrimination!

Meet Sarah, the fearless owner of Sarah's Specialty Cakes. Not only is she a talented baker, but she's also a dedicated advocate for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. As a board member of the Ponoka Pride Society in Ponoka, Alberta, Sarah works tirelessly to promote a community built on love and respect, where individuals are valued for who they are, and where discrimination, prejudice, and hate have no place. Sarah's Specialty Cakes is a safe and inclusive space for all.

But now, she needs OUR help. Sarah recently received a letter from her landlords demanding that she remove the pride flag displayed in the window of her business. Her landlords have also insisted that she cease hosting coffee and paint night meetings for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in her shop. Since then, she’s been bombarded with accusations and additional legal correspondence, making it harder and harder for her to focus on running her business.

Sarah refuses to give in to her landlord’s demands. She insists that her bakery isn't just about delicious treats, but a safe haven built on love and acceptance, where 2SLGBTQIA+ folks can come and be themselves. Well aware of the expansion of hateful rhetoric that challenges the human rights of 2SLGBTQIA+ people in recent months, Sarah knows this is more important than ever. She is determined to stand her ground in offering a safe space to her customers, while advocating for the rights of 2SLGBTQIA+ people in her community and beyond.

To continue this work, Sarah needs funds to cover her legal fees, break her existing commercial lease, and transition her business into a new space. Every dollar you donate will go toward supporting her fight for justice and equality. Sarah will not back down.

2. Breaking the existing lease (if Sarah is unable to break her existing lease without penalty, funds will be used to break the existing lease and set up in a new, safe location.

3. All remaining funds will be donated to the Ponoka Pride Society.
