In April, what was meant to be a special trip to Ireland quickly turned into a medical emergency for Sarah and her family.

While visiting the Cliffs of Moher, Sarah experienced a premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) at just 22 weeks pregnant. She was rushed to Galway Hospital, where she was admitted immediately and placed on strict bed rest, antibiotics, and continuous monitoring.

Since then, Sarah has been transferred to a specialized hospital in Dublin with a Level 3 NICU, where she will remain under close care for the foreseeable future. The goal is simple but incredibly important: keep the baby safely in place for as long as possible. Every additional day significantly improves outcomes.

At this stage, Sarah is unable to return home to Canada and is expected to remain in Ireland until delivery and potentially beyond, depending on the baby’s needs after birth.

Where Things Stand
There are positive signs. Sarah and baby are stable, with no signs of infection or active labor. She is receiving excellent care, and the focus right now is rest, monitoring, and giving the baby as much time as possible.

Why Support Is Needed
While Sarah’s hospital care and meals are covered, this situation has created significant and unexpected financial strain around everything else.

Loss of income: Sarah is unable to work months earlier than planned.
Extended time abroad: She will be in Dublin for an unknown length of time leading up to delivery.
Family separation and travel: Her husband Jason has had to return to Canada temporarily to manage work, insurance, and home responsibilities, but plans to return to Ireland, requiring additional international travel and time away from work.
Support presence in Dublin: Family members are traveling to be with Sarah so she is not facing this alone.
Maintaining life at home: Rent, vehicle payments, bills, and other household expenses in Canada continue while the family is abroad.
Daily living costs abroad: Accommodation for support people, meals outside the hospital, laundry services, transportation, and other essentials add up over weeks or months.
Communication costs: Ongoing international phone and data plans.
Medical-related uncertainty: While major care is covered, there may still be out-of-pocket costs depending on how things progress.
Preparing for an early arrival: The family now needs to prepare for a premature baby and the logistics of eventually bringing their child home to Canada.

How You Can Help
This fundraiser is intended to help offset the unexpected financial pressure of an already difficult situation, allowing Sarah and her family to focus fully on her health and the safe arrival of their baby.
