Often life takes us to unexpected places and seasons. If you know even a fraction of my life story, you know that this is true for me. These last few years have been challenging to say the least. Yet, in the middle of it all, God has handed me a blessing - a dream, really.
Many of you know that my background is in teaching and tutoring math, though due to health reasons I have not been able to teach in a number of years. When I was much younger I aspired to teach math at the college level. I've been fortunate enough to work in several universities serving students through tutoring in Math Labs and thoroughly enjoyed those experiences. However, after being disabled from the various heath challenges that I face, I never thought this dream would be remotely feasible. Then last year I started dreaming again about taking some classes just because I love learning, and as I was researching I found a degree program that was too perfect of a fit to pass up.
Last year I applied and was accepted into the Master's in Foundational Mathematics Teaching in the Community College program at Ball State University. This degree is completely online and asynchronous, which allows me to work within my health limitations. My first semester was last Fall and I am currently in my second semester and on track to finish in 2 more years.
What a gift to be able to reclaim a dream after all these years and all the setbacks I've endured! Teaching at the college level feels like a possibility again. There are so many online classes that need teachers these days and there is still the option to teach a class or two in person as an adjunct professor. When the time comes I will find the best way to work within my health limitations. I'm just super excited that the dream that I thought was gone has now been gifted back to me.
This is where your help comes in. Graduate school is expensive! I'm blessed to have some assistance through a government program, but it only covers part of my tuition. So, I am asking if you want to be part of this dream with me. I estimate that I will need around $10,000 for tuition to complete my degree.
So many of you have been so generous to me in the past. You've helped me get to Mayo Clinic to address health needs. You've helped support me as I've traveled and served various missions. You supported the ministry I helped lead that cared for others in ministry and gave them a place to rest. Teaching students and helping them succeed in a subject that is challenging for many is a joy for me and part of the way I hope to serve next. I am thankful for your help in this next season.
I appreciate your prayers and support.
Thank you!
