Help Support Sarah Goff’s Fight for Recovery
On Saturday, Feb. 8th, Sarah Goff suffered a massive heart attack caused by a severe blockage in her main artery, leaving her heart functioning at less than 20% capacity. She underwent surgery at Mercy Hospital in Canton to put a stent in her heart. Due to complications in surgery, she had to be resuscitated. Once she was stabilized, she was transported to the Cleveland Clinic for advanced care.
Since arriving at the Cleveland Clinic coronary ICU, Sarah has undergone life-saving interventions, including the Impella heart pump, but has also suffered three small strokes in her brain.
She has been intubated since Saturday but is showing promising signs of improvement—she can open her eyes, squeeze hands, and respond to yes/no questions. Every day, she becomes more alert and aware as she fights to heal.
The team of doctors, surgeons, and nurses that have been working on Sarah have been incredible. We don’t take for granted that she is in the best possible place. We trust them as they have been navigating unexpected obstacles to get a clear plan of treatment. Please pray for wisdom and understanding for this amazing team.
The ideal plan would be for her to leave the hospital with a recovered heart and full cognitive/motor skills.
Plan B consists of two options. Either an LVAD (mobile permanent heart pump that she would live with), or a heart transplant.
We have started the process of presenting her case to the transplant committee in hopes of her getting on the transplant list so we are ready with all options.
We are believing for a big miracle!
The little miracles you can help us believe for are:
* That she becomes alert and increases enough in her movement in order to have the breathing tube removed.
* That her heart continues to strengthen so we can wean her off the Impella heart pump.
* That there will be no permanent damage to her brain function from the three mini strokes.
Throughout this experience, we are standing right beside Sarah at all times. Most of you know we all live a little over an hour from the hospital and have had to find housing to remain close as her recovery thus far has been mixed with good days and bad days. We were hoping to be home with Sarah by now, but as the days pass, we have come to the realization that this road will be a lengthy one.
First and foremost, we ask for your prayers as Sarah continues this difficult journey. We have been held up so far by those of you who have been praying and find this to be the most important and urgent ask. We couldn’t do this without all of you.
If you feel moved to support Sarah, Ali and Joe, and her family in other ways, we would be grateful for any donations to help cover the travel, lodging, food, and medical accommodations that come with long-term hospital care.
Thank you for standing with Sarah and our family during this time. Your love, prayers, and generosity mean the world to us.
