Support Mountain Rescue Aspen in Sarah's Honor

Sarah Beechler (1988 - 2022) was a force of a woman, who was driven by the excitement of adventure and the satisfaction of a view framed by miles upon miles of dramatic terrain and mountain peaks. Sarah hiked 57 out of the 58 14,000 foot mountain Peaks in Colorado. She was incredibly skilled and experienced as a hiker and always approached these journeys with caution and readiness. Sarah was hiking solo on Saturday, September 3, 2022, to tackle Capitol Peak, her last of the 58 peaks. Capitol Peak is a class 4 trail, emphasized by extreme conditions, and she was close to the summit when a rock handhold she attempted to grab gave way and fell 900 feet.

Sarah was a strong, cautious, and avid hiker who checked in constantly with her friends and family to let them know where she was, but the mountains wanted her to stay behind for her last trip. These hikes weren’t just another box to check for Sarah, they were a spiritual journey to better get to know herself in the challenges she faced and the time she had by herself to meditate over self-reflection. She once told a friend that on these trips she would listen to music and podcasts but mostly just reflected on life and felt immensely grateful to be so immersed in the beauty and wild, untouched landscape surrounding her.

Sarah felt deeply and sincerely and would share her soul with you in a casual conversation over breakfast. She carried herself through life with spiritual thought and intention in everything she did, feeling a true connection to nature and the universe. Her desire for adventure led her to live all over the world, guiding volcano tours in Nicaragua, practicing yoga in New Zealand, backpacking in Costa Rica & Panama and her next trip was going to be to Bali with a good friend. She prided herself in being fluent in Spanish which allowed her to become immersed in the culture of South America. In addition to the mountains, she had a strong connection to the ocean and more specifically, St. John in the US Virgin Islands where she grew up.
It wasn’t unusual for Sarah to be the first person up and ready to hit the road, asking her friends and family if they wanted to go for a long swim to help her search for an octopus, a creature that always seemed to gravitate towards her. She would be the first person to grab your hand to dance when a good song came on and she would sing along, whether or not she knew the words. She was goofy and fun and had a smile that would light up a room. But more than anything, Sarah was brave and is a woman whom so many looked up to in a multitude of different ways. An incredibly well-defined wake was left behind wherever she went as she inspired people with her unfaltering commitment to her journeys and dedication as a friend, sister, and daughter.

Sarah's family has asked for all donations to be sent to Mountain Rescue Aspen, whose volunteers respond to the needs of adventurers in the rugged mountains of Colorado.

Beechie, Beechums, Beechler, Sarah, you are sorely missed and will forever remain in our hearts. Your deep connection with nature, your ability to be unapologetically you, and your playful spirit will ripple through our lives forever. We love you.
