I’m Donita Williams, and I’ve created this GoFundMe to support my friend, Sarah L. Voisin, who was recently laid off from The Washington Post after 30 years of distinguished service as a photojournalist.
Sarah dedicated her career to upholding the principles of the First Amendment and the vital role of free press in protecting democracy. For three decades, she documented history, told difficult truths, and ensured the public stayed informed. Journalism was never just a job for Sarah—it was a calling rooted in accountability and justice.
Her layoff is not only a personal hardship but part of a broader decline in the institutions that safeguard our democracy. As the sole provider for a family of three, Sarah now faces an urgent financial challenge. Funds raised will help her replace essential tools lost with her job—such as a laptop and phone—critical for continuing her work, seeking employment, and staying connected professionally. Contributions will also support job coaching, resume development, and the creation of a professional portfolio.
Supporting Sarah means more than helping one journalist; it’s a stand for the values of a free press and the belief that truth matters. Any donation or share is deeply appreciated!
