What began as a vacation in New England turned into a tragedy that no one could have imagined.
In the early morning hours of their first day on vacation, Sarah woke to find her husband, Jeff, unresponsive and in cardiac arrest.
In the most terrifying moments of her life, she called 911 and followed the instructions of emergency dispatchers, performing chest compressions for more than ten minutes until help arrived. Through her courage and determination, Jeff was given every possible chance to fight.
For over a week, Jeff was under the care of the incredible medical teams at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Despite every effort by the medical team and the unwavering hope of those who love him, Jeff peacefully passed away, surround by family and an incredible amount of love, on September 21, 2026.
What makes this tragedy even more difficult to understand is that there are still very few answers. Despite extensive testing and evaluations, Jeff's medical team has not been able to identify what caused his cardiac arrest. His loved ones have been left grappling with the reality that a seemingly healthy man, with no clear warning signs, experienced a sudden and catastrophic medical event that doctors cannot fully explain.
In the days since Jeff's cardiac arrest, family and friends have traveled from Maryland, Virginia, New York, Florida, Portugal, and beyond to be by their side… and now to say goodbye. The outpouring of love has been a powerful reminder that Sarah and Jeff are not facing this alone.
Anyone who knew Jeff knew his kindness, his warmth, and the way he cared for the people around him. Anyone who knows Sarah knows her strength, compassion, and unwavering devotion. She fought for Jeff when every second mattered, and now she faces the unimaginable task of saying goodbye to her husband and navigating a future she never expected.
As Sarah prepares for the difficult days ahead, she will be faced with decisions that she should not have to make at 36 and faced with overwhelming financial burdens that often accompany a sudden loss. Our hope is that we can ease some of that burden so she can focus on grieving, healing, and honoring Jeff's memory.
