Hello! First I want to thank everyone who has supported and encouraged my freediving journey. To have taken up the sport just a year ago at age 39, competed in one competition, and then to have made the USA Women’s Depth Team for the AIDA Freediving World Championships (1 of 4 women) at the age of 40 is something I never expected and I couldn’t have done it without those who have gotten behind me. The support I’ve received from those near and far has been astounding.
This year the AIDA Freediving World Championships is taking place in Corsica, France from September 3rd - 15th. As someone who is so new to the sport I’ve not had an opportunity to get sponsors so I thought I’d try my hand at fundraising. I’m hoping to make enough to cover the competition entry free (500 €), pre-competition training dives (400 €), and my flights ($1300).
As I’m sure you already know, freediving is a chronically underfunded sport in the United States. I’ll receive $500 from USA Freediving once I complete my dives (which is great that they can do that for us!) but other than that we’re on our own.
The expenses thus far are:
RT airfare: $1300
Airbnb from Aug 21-Sept 1 pre comp training period: $1469
Airbnb from Sept 1-Sept 16 competition period: $1572
Entry fee: 500 €
Pre comp training dives: 400 €
It was a pricey decision for me to say yes to representing the United States but one I couldn’t say no to!
More than $$, what would really mean the world to me is knowing that I have people cheering me on. The dives will all be live streamed (yes! The entire dive underwater via DiveEye!) and I’ll be sharing the links. Please watch live or the replay, and if you can please drop a few dollars . Having a big list of names on here, rooting for Team USA, would mean so much!
