Support Sara and Tyler's Family After Fire

Long post alert: Some people know but my best friend Sara and Tyler their house caught on fire Sunday morning. Thank god they are all ok but now has put a financial burden on them with staying in a hotel and food expenses. They have 4 kiddos and could use all the support.

Here is what happened, for those that don’t, here’s an update on our life the past few days and moving forward for we don’t know how long: Sunday night/Early Monday morning we had an electrical fire at our house. It started in the attic which is right above my office/Perry’s room. We are blessed and a higher power was looking out for us because earlier that night we had power issues and our garage, the office/Perry’s room and our backyard lights went out. We did figure out it was a blown fuse and despite trying to lessen power and replace the fuse, it kept blowing. We were going to call an electrician in the morning to come out and fix the problem. Because of this, Perry was moved downstairs to sleep for the night so the room was empty. Fast forward about 1.5-2 hours, I was about to go to bed and I swore I smelt smoke downstairs but faintly. I got my friend who is staying at the house to help me investigate. We went upstairs and noticed a scorch mark on the ceiling of the office. Immediately woke Tyler up to come look and got the kids up and downstairs. Tyler looked in the attic and saw the flames. I called 911 and we got everyone up and outside. Tyler used the fire extinguishers we had at the house to try and knock it down but was over powered by the smoke. He almost fell through the ceiling floor trying to get out of the attic. The fire department and police responded quickly (although in the moment it seemed like forever lol). They were able to put out the fire and it stayed localized to the attic and the one room. The FD did an amazing job and most definitely saved our house from a lot of damage. They moved furniture out of the way and laid down tarps to catch most of the debris. Very thankful for them as well as everyone (police, ONG, etc) for responding and helping. Our neighbors graciously opened their doors during this ordeal so we could get get the kids into warmth and out of the cold air. We currently have our friend and 3 kids staying with us so there are 10 people total and our neighbors didn’t hesitate to take us in and make sure we were taken care of in the moment. It started right after midnight and we were able to get hotel rooms around 5am. Red Cross did respond but unfortunately were having some software problems and unable to open a case that night. We’re now in a hotel for the foreseeable future through our homeowners insurance while we’re having all the assessments completed (structural, personal possessions, electrical, etc) and then repairs done so we can move back in. Although the house is currently deemed “unlivable”, it was turned over to us to be able to go in as needed and get what we need (clothes, littles items, necessities, etc). Living in a hotel, especially with the babies, is definitely not fun but all in all I’m thankful we all made it out safe.
