Hello, my name is Tyler, and for the last 2 months, my wife and I have been in and out of the vet's, racking up about $2k in debt trying to take care of our animals. Though our other 2 cats are now in the clear for any medical issues. (Edit: As of sep 6th 2024, our eldest cat venus has passed away due to sudden complications.)
Unfortunately, our cat Sapphire (the middle child) has only gotten worse. She is 8 years old, and for the most part, has never shown or had any medical issues since she was a kitten. That changed about a year ago when my wife started to notice some limping. Sometimes she would limp, and sometimes she would be fine. Around early July, we took our cats in for updated shots and some blood work, etc.
We talked to them about her limp, and they checked it. At first, she was in stage one, where her knee was popping out of place and would slide back in, hence why she didn't always limp. However, since then, her limp has gotten worse, and she has progressed into a stage where it no longer pops back into place, meaning she would need surgery to have this fixed. Which would cost us a little over $2k that we do not have and are struggling to save due to the most recent multiple vet visits.
We ended up having to take her back in recently because she wasn't going to the bathroom, wouldn't eat, and was throwing up bile. We took her in, and they had us give her 3 different oral medications. Unfortunately, the process of giving her medication is extremely difficult and overly stressful for Sapphire.
Though the medication worked to help her go to the bathroom, start eating again, and stop vomiting, within 2 days of giving her the medication, her voice started to become raspy. So after 6-7 days of giving her the meds twice a day, we ended up deciding to cut the medication short by 3 days due to her throat getting worse, as she had developed a sore throat and now was no longer eating or drinking really due to pain.
We went back to the vet, and between her symptoms and blood work, we were informed that there is a chance she may have cancer, so we were recommended to get that checked out before doing any type of leg surgery. The procedure to do so would cost us roughly the same as the leg surgery... $2k. So now we are looking at needing to pay off debt, and somehow save $4k+ on top of that.
I don't always like asking for help, but after countless sleepless nights, many days spent crying and stressing while doing the best my wife and I can to watch over the cats and take care of them... not only is my wallet at its breaking point, but so is our sanity, and I desperately need help from the community at this point.
Any amount helps. All we want is peace of mind, some easing on our extremely tight budget with the needed medical stuff, and to help Sapphire feel better and eventually be able to move around again.
If you can't afford to help, don't feel like you have to. The least we ask is that you share this out there with as many people as possible. Also, thank you to anyone and everyone that helps us and/or supports us. It means the world.
[Ps. The photo is from 4 years ago, unfortunately it's been hard to get a more current picture of her and how rough she looks rn because she spends majority of her time under the bed. ): ]
