Support Sandy's Journey to Better Health

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Emily Guy and I am 21 years young. My passion for animals ignited from a very young age and my passion has only grown with me through young adulthood. Fortunately, it has led me to where I am today, writing this story.

This past March, I was frequenting a local Mennonite farm looking for some plants when I stumbled across a beautiful, red golden retriever named Sandy. Right from the jump, I could tell Sandy had some trauma and possibly a history with abuse- she flinched every time I touched her and would cower as close to the ground as she could. The animal lover in me could not bear this and so from then on, I went to the farm everyday to see Sandy and gain her trust. Months came and went and Sandy slowly began to trust me. She became my best friend in the matter of a few weeks and the man who owned her asked if I wanted her. Not only did it take a lot of convincing, but it took a lot of time to get a “yes” from my parents (shoutout jen and sonny!). By the middle of May, I could confidently say that I was getting a dog. There remained one issue though. Sandy was pregnant and due at the beginning of August, so I had to wait three months to get her ( September 26 was the day I was supposed to get her). All summer long, I went to the farm and trained her and fed her hearty meals to support her and her growing puppies. On August 1st, she had six beautiful puppies, making this her fourth litter at 2 years old. Not to mention, she had puppies in January, so this pregnancy turn around was very quick. Too quick. Sandy began losing more weight each day, so instead of going just twice a day to feed her, I would go three times a day to ensure she was getting the proper nutrients she needed to support her and her pups. I took feeding her into my hands because her owner had no kibble or water set outside for her. Although skinny, Sandy seemed to be healthy and would eat her meals every time I brought them. Unfortunately, on Friday the 13th, I went into the green house and found her in HORRIBLE condition. She was emaciated and unresponsive. I brought her to the vet and it was there they did a blood panel and we found out she is in stage four kidney failure. Sandy, my little red dog, is in kidney failure. She has been at home with me for three days and is already showing signs of improvement. There is no doubt she is a fighter and I will fight for her. Unfortunately her vet bills will be extensive as we navigate this new journey. Any donation helps. Sandy deserves a chance at a good life without neglect and abuse. We are so close. Let’s help her get there, even if it’s only for a few more months/ years. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read this. If you don’t have the funds to donate, please pray for my girl.
