Hi All. Our mother, Sandy Hicks-Lafountain is battling multiple serious and chronic health issues. A week ago, she was taken by ambulance to CVPH UVM Medical Center, struggling to breathe. She was diagnosed with severe pneumonia and sepsis, and her condition was grave. In the days since, doctors have discovered a mass on her lung that will need further attention once her infection is under control. During extensive bloodwork, they also found she has a serious infection called MSSA (Methicillin-Sensitive Staphylococcus aureus), which is dangerous but fortunately is treatable. Sandy will be in the hospital for at least a month due to the treatment required to clear the MSSA. Even after discharge, her journey is just beginning: she'll need ongoing treatment, diagnostic tests, and frequent trips back to the hospital. She is no longer able to drive herself. My sister Kimberley and I are doing everything we can—taking care of her daily needs, groceries, bills, and the long list of things she can no longer manage alone.
On top of all of this, we've learned that Mom owes a substantial amount to CVPH after her insurance paid their portion. She's on a fixed income, which barely covers the basics, let alone the future mounting medical bills. Every dollar donated will go directly to helping Sandy cover day-to-day expenses, medical bills, and the costs of getting to and from the care she desperately needs. Even a small donation makes a difference. If you are unable to give, we ask that you please share this page and keep Sandra in your prayers.
Thank you so much for your kindness and support.
With gratitude,
Brian & Kim
