Edit: On February 12, around 11:45 AM, Blane passed peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his wife and children. We ask for your continued thoughts and prayers during this hard time. Any donations will be used towards Sandy's household expenses, bills, and after life arrangements for Blane.
Blane and Sandy have been married for 23 years. Sadly, since the onset of the COVID Pandemic, Blane has been ill.
During the time Blane has been ill, Sandy and Blane also took in Sandy’s elderly parents who are also very ill. Blane is on disability and social security while Sandy is a teacher. Blane is currently on life support and Sandy has used up all of her paid leave and is now not being paid. She wants to spend the time with Blane while he is in ICU and on ventilation, especially with many unknowns during the next few days.
As stated, during this time, Sandy does not have any income. We are asking for help for her to cover her bills and the medical expenses that have been incurred and will be incurred over the next few weeks. Details of what is going on with Blane and his hospital visit is below.
Current Hospital Visit
On January 15, Blane was taken to the hospital due to sepsis and orthopedic static hypotension. He was in the hospital for 4 weeks and started to get better with the doctors talking about sending him home. On Friday, February 7, before he was supposed to go home, he started running high fevers and getting chills. Doctors determined he had the flu. That night and into Saturday morning, due to the high fever, Blane became delirious and his lungs started to fill with water. Due to this, the doctors decided to intubate him and put him into sedation. He was transferred to ICU on Saturday, February 8.
On Saturday and Sunday his vitals were stable but he kept on waking up under sedation. Due to his vitals being stable and his lungs starting to clear, the Doctors started to wean Blane off of his ventilator. However, starting on Tuesday, Blane’s health started to decline drastically. They have upped his ventilation back to 100% and increased his sedation. His lungs are filled with fluid and he now has ARDS and blood clots in his bladder. With everything that happens, his survival chances are dropping. Blane’s full medical history for the past 3 years is detailed below.
Blane’s Medical History
Blanes condition started in 2022 with an adrenal crisis brought on by his hypopituitarism. This caused his pituitary to shut down which causes none of his adrenal system to work without chemicals. We were able to get that under control but then in June 2022 he got COVID. This caused major issues with his blood pressure and with his Orthostatic Hypotension. Due to COVID, Blane began to have other issues with his eyes, hearing, taste, teeth, and digestive system which became long-term symptoms. This caused a few hospital visits and in April 2024 while out for a stroke on his Omego, Blane got ran off of the road, landing on his elbow. After a few days, his elbow became inflamed, he was in a lot of pain, and began running a fever. After being taken back to the hospital, the doctors discovered he had MRSA. The doctors did surgery to take part of the tissue and bursa sack from his elbow. After a few weeks, he was able to go home with a pic line and antibiotic. He started having difficulty breathing and was taken back to the hospital to discover that he was having an allergic reaction to the antibiotic. This caused his lower lungs to grow “waffles” which the doctor determined as “glass”. While back at the hospital for this allergic reaction, his elbow split open and it was determined that the MRSA was back and had killed the tissue and was in part of the bone. Another surgery was completed and he spent another 3 weeks in the hospital. He was finally able to go home afterwards but ended up getting pneumonia and having to go back into the hospital the next month. That was a short stint in the hospital and he was able to go back home. In August he had another adrenal crisis and in September he had another MRSA flair up but went to the hospital because he had fallen due to his Orthostatic Hypotension. At the end of that visit, the doctors put him in remand. However, after 3 days in rehab, Blane had another MRSA flair up. This hospital stint and rehab lasted until November. Then in December, Blane was hospitalized again due to being dehydrated. He was released later on with enough time to spend Christmas with family.
