Dear Friends,

On Friday August 9th our dear Sandra suffered severe burns while visiting friends in Mexico. While enjoying the evening the group used a citronella candle to ward off mosquitos. For reasons still unknown the candle combusted. Three people caught a fire, with Sandra suffering the worst. She sustained burns on her face, neck and shoulders. She was taken to a private hospital in Tulum and then to Cancun for more advance care. There she was intubated and placed in a medically induced coma.

Her sons were able to arrange a Med flight back to NYC. However, before departure Sandra suffered Cardiac Arrest, thus complicating her health crisis that much more.

She arrived at Weill Cornell Burn Center early Sunday morning (8/11). This is the best Burn Care facility in New York, and is verified by the American Burn Association .

We are praying for Sandra’s full recovery.

The emotional toll on her loved ones is compounded by the staggering cost of medical care.

The hospital in Mexico would not render service without a 20k payment upfront. The Med flight was 50k. Weill Cornel is out of Sandra’s network and so her care will not be covered by her insurance.

We look to you, Sandra’s friends and family, as well as anyone who feels moved to help alleviate the costs of care.
