These are words that I never thought I would be writing. On January 11th, 2025, I received a phone call from a New Orleans phone number. I don’t normally answer calls from strange numbers, but I felt that this one I should. I almost wish I hadn’t. The woman on the other end asked me if I was SandraDee. When I told her yes, she then asked me to confirm my son’s name and birthdate. I needed to know who this person was. She told me she was the coroner investigator and she had my son there. I was still confused until she told me that my son was deceased. His housemate found him in his room, non-responsive.
My son would have been 40 this year. He was not married, nor did he have any kids, unless you count my granddog Mokey. I was so proud of Devin. He created such a beautiful life for himself. The one thing he didn’t have was any kind of life insurance policy. I have got to make my way to New Orleans, get his affairs in order, get him cremated, and make my way back to my home in New York, and I have 30 days to do this. Driving is my ultimate goal so I am able to bring his personal effects home with me. I am planning on around the 29th. Funds are tight, so I am asking your help to alleviate some of the hardship put upon my family. I am not one to ever ask for help, but I am doing it now. I do not know what the total cost will be because there are so many unknowns. Myself and my family would truly appreciate it.
