Support Sandra After Fire and Contractor Scam

Hi, my name is Craig and I would like to meet my 75-year-old mother, Sandra.

Back in September 2023, the top floor of our home sustained heavy damage due to a house, fire. The circumstances forced her to move into my older sister’s house for a place to stay while we waited for the house to be repaired. Here we are 20 months later, and my mom is still sleeping in an armchair in my sister‘s living room.

The insurance company had issued payments to get the house repaired, so we hired a contractor. The contractor we hired set up an agreement that we would have the house completed in September 2024. However, by that time, the house was only at 35% completion and nowhere near being done. We came to find out he was only showing up to work on the house 3 to 4 hours a day, three days a week, and was even showing up under the influence, so we fired him and demanded a refund on the remaining balance of work that would have to be done. He did not comply and essentially ran away with the money. So far, we have been unsuccessful at getting the money back from him. He basically scammed us and left us roughly $60,000 that was owed back to us. Meanwhile the house still stands in disrepair and remains gutted.

Recently, the town has called to repossess the house because we haven’t been able to pay the taxes on it, so I am reaching out to the community for help.

The back taxes owed are roughly $2000, so if we can get that paid, we still have a chance to get the house repaired and my mom back to living the way she used to, in the comfort of her own home.

So I’m reaching out to the community, please help my mother get back into her home.
