Hi! My name is Nadia Ross and I am a 3rd year Directing student at Loyola Marymount University I'm currently working on my thesis film in pursuit of my MFA degree, I'd love to have your support in this process by contributing to my film!
Based on a true story taking place in 1791, "San Ak Rasin" tells the story of Cécile, an enslaved woman who begins to have terrifying visions that ultimately force her to step into her true power and lead her people into what would later be known as the Haitian revolution.
This story reclaims the spiritual roots of the Haitian Revolution through Cécile's transformation from servant to liberator, via the Bois Caiman ceremony. Blending history & mysticism, the film honors Black womanhood & the sacred power of resistance born from faith, ancestry, & collective freedom.
I’m telling this story because narratives of liberation are essential right now. With the rise of fascism and global unrest, San Ak Rasin reminds us of the cost of freedom and the power of collective resistance. Even the Haitian Revolution—one of the most powerful acts of Black liberation in history—has been erased or distorted. Vodou, too, has been demonized to disconnect us from our own spiritual systems and the empowerment they offer.
As a filmmaker, my work explores the intersection of spirituality, ancestry, and resistance. San Ak Rasin reclaims the story of Cécile Fatiman, reminding us that revolution begins within. Sometimes we feel too small to change the world, but this story shows that when one person stands in their purpose, they can awaken a collective. Now more than ever, it’s time to return to our roots and remember that our liberation—spiritual, cultural, and political—is deeply interconnected.
By supporting San Ak Rasin, you are helping to reclaim a history that has been deliberately hidden and to honor the spiritual and cultural foundations that fuel resistance. No matter what your background is, this project is an invitation to witness courage & be reminded that every act of standing in your truth ripples outward.
Your contribution ensures that this story reaches the people who need it most, inspiring reflection, empowerment, and collective action. Together, we can bring this story of liberation to life and remind the world that freedom begins within us all.
