My name is Bhairavi. A dear friend of mine, Samuna, is currently living and working in Abu Dhabi, UAE. She’s going through one of the most challenging and important times of her life. As she steps into the beautiful role of becoming a mother, she’s also fighting to keep her newborn baby alive—while being overwhelmed by mounting hospital bills.

Despite all this, I truly admire her strength and determination. She’s willing to do whatever it takes for her child.

I’ve been to the UAE myself, and while the glitz and glamour may shine on social media and for the wealthy, the reality is often very different for the working class. The gap between the privileged and the people who keep the country running—nurses, cleaners, drivers, shopkeepers—is massive.

So many people from Nepal, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Vietnam, and many other Asian, African, and some European countries come to the UAE with dreams of building a better future for their families back home. They sacrifice a lot, find joy in small moments, and carry the hopes of their loved ones with them every day.

Today, I want to share Samuna’s story in her own words. My hope is that it reaches kind and generous hearts who can help us raise the funds she needs to pay off her medical debt and return to Nepal with her newborn as soon as possible.
