After so many friends, family members, and members of the fire community have reached out asking if we had a GoFundMe or if there was a way they could help, I decided to create this page for Samuel and our family.

As many of you know, Samuel sustained a serious neck injury that brought his fire season to an unexpected end. He has spent the last several days at Harborview, and we are very hopeful that he will be able to come home soon and continue his recovery here with us.

We are incredibly fortunate to have good insurance and so much support around us, and I want to be clear that we aren't creating this because we feel like we are in a desperate situation. So many people have simply asked how they can help, and after being asked about a GoFundMe several times, I decided this would be the easiest way to give people that option.

Samuel will likely be unable to work for the next few months while he recovers. Once he's home, I'll be taking care of him while also juggling our kids and finishing my teaching degree this year, so life is definitely going to look a little different for us for a while.

Any support we receive will help with the unexpected expenses that come along with Samuel's injury and recovery and help take a little pressure off our family while we adjust to the next few months.

Please don't feel obligated to donate. The messages, phone calls, prayers, offers to help, and love that people have already shown our family have meant more to us than I can possibly say.

And if we are fortunate enough to receive more than we need, we plan to donate the remaining funds to an organization that supports wildland firefighters and their families. It feels like the right way to pass along the kindness that has been shown to us.

I cannot stress enough how thankful we are for everyone who has reached out, checked on Samuel, checked on me and the kids, and offered to help. We are incredibly grateful to have so many wonderful people in our corner while we get Samuel home and on the road to recovery. ❤️
