Samuel L Jason is a lab mix that came into our family from a local rescue organization when he was just 12 weeks old. He came with many medical needs from prior neglect and abuse as a puppy; skin infections, hair loss, and bulging discs in his lower back. We have successfully treated his other medical needs and given Samuel a wonderful life for the last 6 years. We took in his brother, Henri, at 4 weeks old as a foster.. and he never left. Our hearts are full with these wonderful boys in our lives! These two are inseparable and take amazing care of one another. Samuel is the family dog of our dreams. He works full time as the “nanny” because he loves children and exhausts himself to watch over them in our home. Samuel started to lose his balance and fall over while walking on March 26th, by April 1st he woke up and could only walk in circles or backwards. Upon taking him to a local vet, they determined he had a ruptured eardrum in his left ear. They gave antibiotics and vertigo meds, and we followed up a week later. While he did improve some, he had an extreme head tilt- hanging his head sideways all the way to the ground. The vet indicated it could be 6 weeks or more before the ear could heal, so we agreed to give it time. Fast forward to April 17th and Samuel is unable to walk without assistance most days and has lost nearly 10 pounds. He cannot make out shapes or see in the dim light. He is terrified and shakes in fear, unsure of his surroundings. With much comfort and patience, he bravely gets back on his feet and keeps trying. Regardless of his condition he is so happy and loved by everyone that meets him. Taking him for a second opinion, complete with labs and cultures it’s recommended that Samuel get a CT Scan of his head. The objective is to rule out if a tumor or mass in his head being the reason for the ruptured eardrum drum and the neurological symptoms. Knowing if he has a mass will help us to provide the care he needs to have a good quality of life, and hopefully a long one! I have already financed $700 on three visits, and just finished paying off his previous medical bills. I am a full time college student, work full time, and I am a wife and mother. I also have picked up a seasonal job for the last 4 years to earn extra money, but it just never seems enough. My plate is full, and I am at a crossroads of choosing to pay my college tuition this summer or this medical expense. Please help me to earn enough money to get the necessary imaging on Samuel’s head. I just want to see the best companion I’ve ever had comfortable and happy!
