Hi my name is Breanna and I am fundraising for the Hughes family.

On January 14th, 2024 Samuel was rushed in to the emergency room having a hard time breathing. Samuel had to be intubated and placed on a ventilator to breath. He has been diagnosed with meningococcal encephalitis. He has a long road of recovery, including extensive physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy ahead of him. The speech therapy he will have to go through is due to damage to his cartilage in his vocal cords. Samuel's mother does have insurance, however this is not going to come close to covering the medical bills or the expenses that will go along with this. She is unable to work at this time due to needing to be at the hospital with him. In order to be able to continue with the insurance coverage she will also be required to cover the insurance premium. Samuel is expected to be in the hospital for several weeks or longer as he recovers from this. He was on a ventilator for 9 days and the doctors said to expect 1 week for every day on the ventilator. We are so grateful that he is healing from this terrifying sickness, but I would like to take some of the worry from the family so they can focus on Samuel's healing and that his mother is able to stay by his side and learn how to help Samuel recover from this. In addition to this difficult situation, the family is doing their best to help care for Samuel's older brothers. They have also had to arrange and pay for childcare needs, transportation, and food for them. While their world has paused, the bills have not. I would hate to see this family lose their home and everything Samantha has worked for to provide for her beautiful family.
