Hola,

Para los que no me conocen, mi nombre es Samuel Olivo. De niño siempre soñé con ser camionero y de adulto con mucho trabajo y dedicación mi sueño se hizo realidad. He sido camionero toda mi vida adulta y es lo que he estado haciendo para mantener a mi familia. Durante los últimos 19 años he estado trabajando para la misma empresa de transporte, New Line Transport, anteriormente conocida como Tri-State Carriers. En el año 2011 sufrí un gran susto al sufrir un infarto cardíaco. Por la gracia de Dios me recuperé y pude volver a hacer lo que amo, conducir camiones.

La vida volvió a la normalidad, con la diferencia de que yo era más consciente de que necesitaba cuidarme mejor. Aunque me estaba cuidando en el año 2022 comencé a sentir un dolor abdominal y fui al médico y después de algunas pruebas, recibí una noticia inesperada; me diagnosticaron cáncer en la próstata. Pasé por algunos obstáculos, pero después de mucho trabajo con el seguro médico y la burocracia, comencé mi tratamiento contra el cáncer. Mientras estaba en tratamiento pude seguir trabajando y manteniendo a mi familia.

Manteniendo mi Fe y confiando en que yo también superaré esto, la vida continuó. Avancemos hasta octubre de 2024. Me comenzó a doler la espalda y pensé que tenía que ver con conducir durante largas horas. A mediados de octubre el dolor aumentó así que decidí ver a un médico que me recetó algunos relajantes musculares, pero no me ayudaron. El 7 de noviembre el dolor era insoportable y tuve que llamar al 911. Me llevaron al hospital y después de un MRI resultó que tenía dos vértebras fracturadas. Me tuvieron que operar de emergencia para reparar las vértebras. La cirugía duró 4 horas y gracias a Dios fue un éxito. Sin embargo, junto con las buenas noticias de que la cirugía fue un éxito, el médico me dio malas noticias, me dijo que mis días como camionero llegaron a su fin y que ya no puedo ganarme la vida conduciendo.

Ese golpe me dejó sin aliento, me han quitado el sueño de mi infancia y además de eso; eso es todo lo que sé hacer para mantener a mi familia.

No me rendiré; me estoy preparando para un largo camino hacia la recuperación porque el médico me dijo que me tomará más de un año con fisioterapia para recuperarme. Mientras tanto continuaré con el tratamiento contra el cáncer hasta que esté libre de cáncer.

Tengo un largo camino por delante, pero con Dios, mi familia y mis amigos de mi lado lo voy a lograr.

For those that don’t know me, my name is Samuel Olivo. As a child I always dreamed about being a truck driver and as an adult with much work and dedication my dream came true. I have been a truck driver all my adult life and it’s what I’ve been doing to provide for my family. I have been working for the same trucking company New Line Transport formerly known as Tri-State Carriers for the past 19 years. In 2011 I suffered a big scare by having a heart attack. By the grace of God, I recovered and was able to go back to doing what I love, truck driving.

Life got back to normal, with the difference that I was more aware that I needed to take better care of myself. Even though I was taking care of myself in 2022 I started feeling an abdominal pain and went to see the doctor and after some tests, life threw me another curve ball. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I went through a few roadblocks but after much footwork with insurance and red tape I started my cancer treatment. While on treatment I was able to continue working and providing for my family.

Keeping my faith and trusting that I will get through this as well, life went on. Fast forward to October of 2024. My back started hurting and I thought that it had to do with driving for long hours. By mid-October the pain increased so I decided to see a doctor which prescribed some muscle relaxers but that didn’t help. On November 7th the pain was unbearable, and I had to call 911. I was taken to the hospital and after an MRI it turned out to be that I had two vertebrae fractures. I had emergency surgery to repair the vertebrae. The surgery took 4 hours long and thank God it was a success. However along with the good news that the surgery was a success the doctor delivered bad news. He told me that my trucking days are over and that I cannot drive for a living anymore.

That blow took my breath away, my childhood dream has been taken away from me and besides that; that is all I know to do to provide for my family.

I’m not giving up; I’m preparing myself for a long road to recovery ahead as the doctor told me that it will take over a year with physical therapy to recover. Meanwhile I will continue with the cancer treatment until I’m cancer free.

I have a long journey ahead of me but with God, family, and friends on my side I will conquer this.
