Hi, my name is Chuckee, and I’m raising funds for my brother, Sam.

This is really hard to write, but my brother has been through more than most people could ever imagine, and I just want to help him feel like himself again.

For more than a decade, Sam has battled serious health issues: multiple back/spinal surgeries, constant nerve pain, and now severe fainting and seizure-like episodes that have completely changed his life. Earlier this year, one of those episodes caused him to crash his car. Thankfully, he survived, but the seizures became worse and more frequent. Doctors admitted him to the hospital to find out what was happening, and they discovered it was connected to his neck. He ended up needing major neck surgery.

Since then, he’s been struggling every single day. He can’t eat solid foods and mostly relies on protein shakes to stay nourished. Because of his surgery, he has to insert a catheter himself just to go to the bathroom. It’s been incredibly painful — physically, emotionally, and mentally.

While he was in the hospital, he lost everything: his home, his job, and even all his personal belongings. His things were placed in storage, but when he finally went to retrieve them, everything was covered in mold and destroyed. He literally walked out of the hospital with just the clothes on his back.

Right now, he’s staying with a relative in Texas, trying to recover and rebuild from absolutely nothing. Despite everything, Sam still finds comfort in small things — like watching his favorite team, the Chicago Cubs — and he continues to hold onto his faith and hope. He’s always been someone who gives his best even when life gives him so little in return.

We’re raising funds to help with:

• Medical expenses and ongoing treatment

• Daily living needs (food, clothing, hygiene, transportation)

• Replacing the essentials lost to mold damage

• Helping him rebuild his life and regain independence
